The Sportsman’s Shop and T&T Sports of Charleston Team Up

Charleston, SC- The Sportsman’s Shop and T&T Sports of Charleston, two Lowcountry/South Carolina-based uniform and sporting goods equipment dealers have signed a merger agreement. The two companies, each with strong reputations for quality personal service, have been competitors for over 60 years in the team athletic and retail sporting goods field.

The merger of The Sportsman’s Shop and T&T Sports of Charleston will create a new partnership capitalizing on a substantial opportunity to more than double their previous buying power, as well as better position their in-house production services. The new company will compete in a diverse market offering: athletic retail, team and institutional sporting goods, corporate and industrial apparel, uniforms and promotional products, public safety uniforms and accessories and a full-service recognition awards, plaques and trophies department. The company’s valuable in-house production services will include embroidery, screen-printing, alterations and graphic design.   All of these areas   are “Teaming Up” to make the new company a one-stop shop for all their customers’ needs.

The Sportsman’s Shop will consolidate its downtown Charleston (King Street) location with the T&T Sports’ location at 5064 Rivers Ave., North Charleston by June of this year. Look for the storewide moving sale to begin in mid February at all locations including the present retail branches in Summerville and Beaufort. The Summerville & Beaufort stores will remain open in their present locations. All stores will be open and ready for business during the transition. The new company will enjoy the 25,000 square foot headquarters on Rivers avenue, which will offer their customers easy on/off access to I-526 and I-26. The Sportsman’s Shop and T&T will offer a one-stop shop for a wide range of products and specialized services in the Sporting Goods, Corporate/Industrial, Medical, Public Safety Industries as well as Awards/Recognition.

The merged company will represent the best brands in the Sporting Goods, Corporate/Industrial and Public Safety Industry. Companies such as Nike, Russell Athletic, Wilson, Rawlings, Under Armour, Dickies, Hanes, Gildan, Cutter & Buck, 5.11, Horace Smalls and many more provide customers with a vast array of choices. “The combination of great national brands in addition to our local in-house production services really separates us from the competition,” said Ben Thrash, president of T&T Sports of Charleston.

“We have teamed up for our customers; the merger of The Sportsman’s Shop and T&T will allow us to offer our customers competitive national pricing without sacrificing great local service. If you need it quick, we can make it happen with our in-house embroidery, screen-printing, and alterations,” said Buddy Lenhardt, President of The Sportsman’s Shop.

Generations of local athletes have depended on The Sportsman’s Shop and T&T to outfit them. According to Tommy Eiserhardt, Vice President of The Sportsman’s Shop, “We have customers that come in with their son and daughter and tell us that we sold them their first glove or set of pads and that they wouldn’t trust anyone else to safely fit their child with quality equipment. We have been doing just that for over half a century and look forward to serving the next generation of lowcountry athletes.”

General History: Charles Eiserhardt, Gerald McMahon and Jack Simmons established the Sportsman’s Shop in 1946. The Sportsman’s Shop has been owned and operated by Buddy Lenhardt and Tommy Eiserhardt since 1987. Pat Thrash founded the original T&T Sports in Columbia in 1948. Rosser Thrash joined the company in 1954 and opened their second location in Charleston in 1961.   President and owner of T&T Sports, Ben Thrash has worked in the industry for the last 26 years. For over six decades, the two companies have a proven record of supplying quality products, dependable services & cutting-edge innovation in their respected industries. The new partnership will include the vast experience of all three principals, Tommy Eiserhardt, Buddy Lenhardt, and Ben Thrash.
